Shift Your Weight
January 07, 2026
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 (ESV)
Trust is often a word we use lightly, but in the original Hebrew, the word for trust carries the idea of lying helpless on the ground, facedown, a posture of total dependence. It is the image of a person who has run to a refuge and is now resting their entire weight upon it. Proverbs 3:5 gives us a blueprint for how to navigate a world that feels increasingly uncertain. It isn't just a suggestion to believe; it is a command to shift our weight. The Scripture reminds us to, trust in the Lord with all your hear, and do not lean on your own understanding. I encourage you today to shift all your weight and the weight of your burdens on The Lord. God doesn't ask for a percentage of our confidence, He wants all our trust to be in Him. Trusting God as long as things go our way, but keeping a backup plan just in case, is not trusting in The Lord. To trust with all your heart means bringing your fears, your what-ifs, and your dreams to Him and saying, Lord I trust you. The word lean refers to supporting yourself with a staff or a crutch. Our own understanding is our limited human perspective of what we can see, calculate, and predict. When we lean on our understanding, we are leaning on something that was never meant to hold the full weight of our lives. We lean on our own understanding because it gives us a sense of control. If we can figure it out, we feel safe. When you stop leaning on your own logic, you aren't falling into an abyss; you are falling into the arms of a Father who sees the end from the beginning. No matter what I am facing or what I go through I am shifting all my weight onto The Lord and not my own understanding or thoughts. I know that The Lord can handle the weight of my problems and carry me through. Since I am shifting my weight and leaning on The Lord, I know for sure, “It’s My Year ToGet My Thing From My God!”
Prayer:
Lord, I confess that I often rely on my own my own strength. Today, I choose to shift my weight. I choose to trust Your heart even when I cannot trace Your hand. Help me to let go of the need to understand everything and instead find rest in the fact that You are good and You are in control. I love you Lord. In Jesus Name Amen.
